A bright lobby and young front desk officers welcome us at the recently opened Formule1 Hotel in Gurgaon. After touring the hotel and checking out its small but clean rooms, breakfast counter and vending machines which dispense not only snacks and soda but essentials like dental kits, face wash and sanitary napkins; we have a freewheeling chat with Philip Logan, Vice President, Hotel Formule1 India.
Over chai at the hotel’s lounge, where you can gobble up a pizza or dosa ordered from a restaurant nearby, he tells us how they are offering the ‘rest-assured’ experience. Excerpts:
We are an entry level brand but our hotels don’t look cheap. We are a consumer friendly hotel and we offer free high-speed internet. W e are always working on how we can become more affordable for consumers. We keep our cost per room low so that the benefit can be passed on to the consumers. Also our hotel offerings are consistent – Formule1 hotel is actually a formula on which we work. We go for premium locations but build hotels on tight plots. There are no restaurants but we serve hot breakfast and delivery is allowed from restaurants outside.
We have hotels in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Pune, Gurgaon and Greater Noida. We have hotels under development in Hyderabad, Nashik, Mumbai Goregaon, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata.
No. We have the Accor Pricing Parity which means whether you book it through an online travel agent (like hotels.com or booking.com) or our website you will get the same rate. Formule1 Hotels is not part of the Accor loyalty programme but we have joined PayBack, so one can book using the PayBack reward points and get better value.
Well my tip would be book early. It’s simple if you book your hotel room 30 days in advance you end up saving 30 per cent, if you book 20 days in advance you will save 20 per cent and if you book 10 days in advance the discount on your booking will be only 10 percent. So it’s simple earlier you book, the better rate you get.
High speed wi-fi! I can’t do without the internet and I feel hotels should offer it for free. I don’t mind paying little extra for the room but don’t want to pay extra for wi-fi when maybe I will use it only for 15 minutes.
